Censors often claim that a given book is “unsuitable for children.” What do kids say? Do they find things like queer content as shocking as many conservative grown-ups predict?
This summer we’ll explore these issues in “Banned Camp” a series of book reviews by kids, featuring titles that are currently being challenged in many communities.
We’ll kick things off by looking at a book that’s been near the centre of this debate since it first appeared about two decades ago: And Tango Makes Three, written by Peter Parnell and Justin Richardson and illustrated by Henry Cole.
Readers aged 4-8 are invited to send us a paragraph (or less) with their take about this story, inspired by the real-life story of two male chinstrap penguins, Roy and Silo, who raised a chick together at the Central Park Zoo,
Send your reviews to chris@smallprinttoronto.org We will post them as they come in.
Happy reading, campers!
