Walking in Mouse City Valley with Jane Jacobs

Urban planners aged 8-10 are spending the month of April building a model city out of recycled materials, as part of our Mouse City Valley project at Evergreen Brick Works. Their diorama will be exhibited to the public on Sunday, May 6.

What better way to christen this mouse-sized city than by launching Susan Hughes’s picture book about renowned local urbanist, Jane Jacobs, illustrated by Valerie Blovin,WALKING IN THE CITY WITH JANE (Kids Can Press)?

After reading WALKING IN THE CITY WITH JANE, Susan Hughes will be interviewed on stage by a few of the kids who built Mouse City Valley. There will be a mini Jane’s Walk from the BMO Atrium to the Children’s Garden at Evergreen, where children will conduct tours of their model city.

Don’t miss this opportunity to not only pick up this exquisite new biography of Jane Jacobs for young readers, but, to celebrate how her vision of ‘a healthy city’ continues to inspire young city-builders.

Evergreen Garden Market will have books available for purchase at the event.
