Writers aged 6-12 are invited to craft their entries for our 8th Annual Toronto Roald Dahl Day Short Story Contest. This year’s competition is based on Dahl’s beloved novel MATILDA. Here’s the writing prompt:
Craft a short story (1500 words MAX) about what you, a bookish middle-grade student with a mean-spirited gym teacher, Mr Trunchbull, would do if you woke up on a school-day morning and discovered you had telekinetic powers just like Matilda.
Send it to firstname.lastname@example.org by Friday, October 27th.
An all star judging panel will read aloud and award cool prizes at our 8th Toronto Roald Dahl Day celebration, on Saturday, November 16 at the Ted Rogers Hot Docs Cinema (565 Bloor St West, at Bathurst). The grand prize has been renamed the Kevin Rooney Award, as a tribute to an exceptionally gifted teacher who encouraged countless young people, in Canada and Shanghai, to tell their own stories. Directly after the awards, there’ll be a special screening of Actor-director Danny Devito‘s acclaimed film version of MATILDA. Don’t miss this Dahl-tastic celebration of young storytellers!
Tickets are Now On Sale at the Ted Rogers Hot Docs Cinema Box Office. (Click Here)
